We signed up with George about 5 weeks before our wedding to create a memory for our first dance. Anyone looking to elevate their first dance please sign up ahead of time as it will be worth it. George was very calm and understanding of our dance levels and can turn anyone into a professional looking dancer. He has a great sense of humour to keep the lessons entertaining and a fun experience. If you do have experience in recreational dancing (hiphop, jazz, acro, tap, ballet) which I did have a few years in a few, George uses those strengths to strengthen your dance. He is an exceptional instructor and will come highly recommended. From all the stress planning a wedding brings, George’s class makes you forget it and remember why you are with and marrying the person. Perfect date nights that result in a memory you will never forget! Can’t wait to try some of his other group couple classes in the future!

My fiancee and I signed up with George about five weeks before our wedding to pull together a first dance at the last-minute. I had danced lots before, but my partner had not danced a day in his life so I was worried that he would struggle with it or give up. Another complicating factor is that I was pregnant, so I wasn’t moving as quickly or easily as I normally would have in my heels. Neither of these were problems for George. From the very beginning he understood what our challenges would be and knew exactly what we had to do to overcome them. He had a game plan from the get-go, set reasonable expectations, and our first dance was far better than I thought we would be able to make it in only 5 short weeks! My partner felt comfortable with George and he felt supported, which was incredibly important for me (given that I would enjoy this regardless). From the very beginning he filled my partner with confidence that he could do this, and it turns out he could! My fiancee is a man of few words, and he told me that George was exactly what we needed and that he exceeded his expectations. I am sad that our lessons are over, but I expect that we will return when the dust settles for what we’d both now consider to be ‘fun together time’.

We had 8 Tango sessions before our wedding with George and we loved every second of the classes. We were both beginners and every lesson was easy to follow and he had a lot of patience with us. We are definitely coming back for other classes and HIGHLY recommend him.

I cannot say enough good things about George. His dedication and passion for his students to succeed is unmatched. My husband is a non-dancer, he hates it, and with George’s guidance, we were able to knock the socks off our guests. All steps are bite-sized and manageable. He fits the dance to your personality ability and style. But not only that … He believes in you. George truly believes that you have the ability within you and makes sure you believe in yourself.
My husband Josh and I are horrible dancers and we were going do the normal “back and forth” high school dance as our first dance (thank gosh we didn’t). We decided to get some help and we had the absolute best experience with George. We are so happy we hired him, no regrets. With all the wedding planning stress we had, the best part was actually getting to practice the dance with each other. George is humble, nice and hilarious. He makes you comfortable as a first time dancer and would recommend him 100 times over.
George is the absolute best, quick frankly he’s part of the family now. My now husband and I, wanted to learn to dance for our wedding. We didn’t have anything fancy in mind, we just didn’t want to look silly and stiff. After our first meeting with George we knew that we wanted to do dance as an activity/hobby to enjoy together as a couple. Not only did George teach us to dance, he gave us an INCREDIBLE routine for our wedding. Our guests were blown away and couldn’t speak highly enough. George as an instructor is phenomenal. He understands your personal/physical limits and will create a routine that allows you to maximize and reach your full potential without breaching those limits. He makes every lesson fun with his amazing sense of humour and is able to explain & show you how to do things in a manner that those unfamiliar with dance can understand. George makes dancing easy, fluid, and effortless. We have had 25 lessons with George and in that time we have learned 9 styles of dance and 3 routines. All have blown people away when we have performed them. We have already signed up for another 25 lessons and now plan to compete! Our love for dance grew and bloomed because of George. I have watched our wedding dance video countless times now and I can’t thank George enough for making it so memorable and special. I HIGHLY recommend George if you are thinking of doing anything dance-related. He is the absolute best and we hope to continue with him for years to come. There are only 5 stars but George is really a 10/10! We love you George 🙂

If you are looking to create an unforgettable wedding experience while feeling confident, graceful, harmonious, and expressive on the dance floor, you have found the place. My son and I took “last minute” dancing classes a few weeks prior to his wedding. George is far more than a great choreographer in creating your unique dance, and far more than a dance teacher, he is perceptive of fears and negative inner dialog one faces and knows how to lead you to overcome them. Despite my below-elementary level in dancing and fear of intimidation, the few classes my son & I took with George gifted me with the unforgettable experience of owning the stage when dancing with my son.

George created such a beautiful first dance for us and it was one of the favourite parts of our wedding. We both had an amazing experience working with him, and there wasn’t a single lesson where we didn’t laugh! George has a great sense of humour, is very patient, and is SO good at what he does. If you are looking for a dance instructor, look no further!
We are extremely happy that we took dance lessons from George of Yourweddingdance.ca. He was everything we could have asked for.
He explained things really well. My (now) wife and I aren’t trained dancers, and he found ways to teach us the moves we needed.
His choreography was great! Late into our lessons, we requested to increase the complexity of our routine, and he came up with new material on the spot for us.
The routine George developed for us was perfect for our abilities. It was quite challenging (as we requested) but still feasible for us to learn.
Finally, George has an honest passion for dancing. When I asked him questions such as “why do we do things this way?” I could see how excited he was to answer me.
Anyway, if you’re thinking of taking lessons from Yourweddingdance.ca, you can’t go wrong!

We had an amazing experience learning our dance with George! We went in thinking we would only perform if we managed to look like we knew what we were doing, and by the end of the first lesson, we were like, okay, this is gonna be good!! We got the 10 lesson package which we’d recommend so you can learn some more complicated moves and also refine the dance.
George is very funny, perceptive, and A++ teacher, and he made every lesson smooth and entertaining. We always looked forward to the next lesson! We were keeping this a secret from our friends and families, but it was tough as we just wanted to tell everyone about how much fun and amazing this experience was.
More than that, his choreography is out of this world. We attended a dance social (also highly recommend doing this!) and saw some other couples’ dances, and all the songs and dances were so different and unique and beautiful! He doesn’t just teach “waltz” or “salsa” etc, he teaches his own wedding dance creation that takes inspiration from a wide variety of styles and turns them into something that doesn’t require rigid steps or beats, unique to the song you choose. It’s clear from comparing wedding dance videos from him and other wedding dance services that his choreography is miles better! And most tellingly, both our moms (who are obviously not biased at all) are absolutely obsessed with our dance and can’t stop talking about it. So yeah. QED.

You can stop searching now, you’ve found the right person to teach you dancing. George is the best! We came to him with basically zero experience (and 4 left feet) but he helped us not only learn a routine but gain confidence and have fun! Even my dancing-shy husband now loves George and is willing to learn more dancing! George really understands people and appreciated the unique dynamics of every different relationship, and he somehow managed to incorporate all that into the dance! By the end of it we were doing lifts and dips and smiling with a wedding first dance that was truly “Us” in personality. And our guests thought we’ve been dancing for decades? Can’t say enough good things about George!

With just a month and a half out until our wedding, we reached out to George to see if he would be able to help us learn a dance for our wedding and we were blown away with what he was able to help us accomplish! In just 5 lessons, George created a beautiful choreographed dance for us while providing us great feedback and tips along the way so that we felt comfortable the day of our wedding. George integrated ‘big impact’ but relatively easy dance moves that left our wedding guests incredibly impressed! As two people with no dance experience, he was incredibly patient and encouraging while making our lessons fun. We are so glad we chose to go with George to create and learn choreography for our first dance – we only wish we had gone sooner!
Let’s start off by saying getting wedding dance lessons for our first dance was my favourite part of the whole wedding process and we would 100% do it all again. George is truly such an amazing person. He truly made us smile for all of our lessons and really challenged us in the best way possible to have fun and look good doing it! Absolutely incomparable quality of service – if you think you can’t dance, just wait until George gets you on your feet. My husband was so nervous to even think about dance lessons but we hated, even more, to think about an awkward swaying back and forth kind of wedding dance. We met George, and we knew we had to try! George was simply fantastic. We didn’t know what to expect going into our first trial lesson, but we were quickly convinced to get five more lessons with George before our wedding. Not only did he give us a really great series of moves and teach us how to move as a couple, but he taught us how to lead/follow mixed in with pre-marital advice!! We had so much fun dancing, learning, and laughing. Thanks to George, our first dance wowed our guests and was one of the most memorable parts of our night.
George is just a phenomenal Dance teacher!! we had so much fun because he made it fun and easy for us. he just understands how you work as a couple and knows exactly what type of chores etc. you need. the best ist he also has so many good tips not only for dancing but also for real life and marriage 🙂 thank you George, we were honoured to be a part of yourweddingdance!!!
George is a great instructor for dance, esp if you plan for your “First” dance on your special day! You just need to give him your favourite song, then he “Designs” the dance for you based on your capabilities and interests! It really doesn’t matter if you know anything about dancing or music! You even feel the difference after the first session! I myself never danced before but we had a great performance at our wedding and it made our night even more special! I and my wife enjoyed it a lot a have decided to get back to him for more dancing classes. It’s fair to say he opened a new world to us! We will continue learning dancing as a couple of activities all along with our life! I strongly recommended him and his classes! He is patient, professional, and has a great sense of humour!
As someone with no dancing experience at all, I was very nervous before our first class with George. However, from the moment we first met George and started learning some basics from him, I suddenly felt so much more at ease. He is such an incredible teacher who really knows how to build your confidence, and he was always so patient with us. I can’t recommend George enough. My fiance and I began taking lessons with George about 1 month before our wedding. We did 7 lessons. My mom got us the lessons as a gift for Christmas. I must admit, I was skeptical and never thought that I would enjoy dance lessons. George’s personality was so perfect for teaching me and dealing with my lack of coordination. He knew exactly how to coach us and choreograph a dance for us and help us do more than we could have imagined. I could not say better things about George. I thought I had 2 left feet before the lessons and I was so amazed with what we were able to learn and do in just 4 short weeks. Jenny and I had such a good time doing these lessons too we are certainly going to go back to learn more. 10/10 amazing.
George was the best! If you are getting married, you MUST come here. Before coming for our first lesson, we were really stressed as neither of us can dance. However, George made it fun, easy and very enjoyable. While dancing we would both forget about everything and enjoy, which really took away a lot of pressure from wedding planning. Today was our last lesson, and we were leaving with mixed feelings – we are happy to feel confident with our dance but sad at the same time to be done. Now we are looking forward to our wedding and I absolutely can’t wait for our first dance!!

My husband and I took classes with George prior to our wedding to learn a routine for our first dance, and we honestly can’t say enough wonderful things about George!! He was an amazing instructor who was able to teach us the choreography with a month left before our wedding, working tirelessly and patiently to ensure that we really understood the steps and the execution. George is very talented and you can see his passion for what he does. The pricing was reasonable as well, and we intend to go back and take lessons on various other dance styles. Our first dance made a huge impact on our guests and was one of the highlights of our wedding. We highly recommend using George to really perfect the first dance and make it a memorable experience!
My fiancee (now husband) really enjoyed having George as our dance instructor. Everyone at our wedding was impressed with our choreographed first dance, thanks to George’s detailed instructions. His humor also made the classes really enjoyable!
We realized ahead of time that we need dance lessons even for a simple first dance and searched online for dance instructors in Toronto GTA. We decided on George solely based on the online reviews and his website. He made us comfortable right from the beginning and started with simple steps and movements. He taught and tailored the moves to us and it ended up being a beautiful piece complimented by friends and family. He also has a good sense of humor and makes you feel comfortable while learning new moves. His dance studio was very private and spacious and we are definitely glad that we took lessons from George.
We are so happy that we decided to work with George for choreographing our first dance. George is very talented, funny and witty, it was a fun process all around learning our first dance leading up to our wedding. George put together a beautiful dance sequence for us to learn which we we able to learn in about 5 classes, and then we decided to take a couple of extra classes to make sure we were very comfortable with our routine. George also hosted a series of fun dance socials with several other couples which we found very useful, since it made us so much more comfortable dancing in different spaces and in front of an audience. George choreographed a beautiful first dance for our wedding. Our song was a bit unusual but he made it work and came up a great routine that we were comfortable doing and worked with our style. We were able to learn the routine in 4 lessons over the course of about a month. The experience was a fun part of the wedding planning process and really added something special to our wedding. Everyone was surprised and loved it. I would recommend George.
My fiancé and I decided to take the leap and do a choreographed dance for our wedding. We immediately loved George Kastulin from our very first visit! He is honest, hilarious, patient, and overall, an amazing teacher and human being. We stressed to him our lack of dancing skills (literally NONE) and it did not phase him at all. His unique teaching ability gave us the courage we needed to find our confidence. He believed in us when we didn’t believe in ourselves…or each other (lol). We only had 5 sessions and everyone that saw our dance was astonished that we learnt everything we did in such a short time frame. I would absolutely recommend this to any couple who wants to take the same leap as us! If you’re scared to take that leap because of your inexperience in dancing — DON’T BE — that’s one of the best things about George; his ability to train even the most inexperienced dancers into confident, competent ones. We found George while looking online for wedding dance instructors. We decided to go with George because of all the positive reviews. We were not disappointed! We took the five wedding dance program. Even though we are not at all great dancers, George was able to choreograph and teach us an amazing dance routine. He was very patient in teaching us all the basic steps and we had a lot of fun learning along the way. In the end, we were able to perform our first dance that we absolutely loved. George was recommended to us through a work colleague. We’re so glad we decided to go with him for dance lessons for our all-important first dance for our wedding. We went for an introductory class with him about 2 months out from our wedding. We chose our wedding song and he taught us a beautiful choreographed a dance sequence over the next 5 lessons. It was perfect for us.
Neither of us could dance 2 steps before we met George and after our wedding dance people were coming up to us absolutely amazed, asking if we’d been practicing and for how long. It was really wonderful. We both can’t thank George enough for his teaching, advice, great humour and absolute passion for us to wow our guests.
George was super knowledgeable and helpful! He made the lessons fun and memorable. Our first dance comprised of two part: slow dance (A thousand years by Christina Perri) and hip hop (Downtown by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis). George helped us construct the choreography and patiently helped us refining all the dance moves as we did not have any dance experience prior to this. George was so great he broke it down into langue we can understand with little time to lean the steps. I had so much fun and we will definitely will be taking more classes after were married. he was really a great teacher didn’t think we would get lol but he took his time teaching step by step.

We needed lessons on short notice, with no experience. George was able to accommodate our hectic schedule on short notice. He has a great understanding of how men and women learn new things. And how relationships work. A great instinct for teaching and he makes it comfortable. His way of teaching made our wedding complete.

The more george saw we could handle, the more he built into the routine; it’s all very custom to each couple. In just a few short classes, he was able to choreography a beautiful first dance for me and my husband, with careful consideration of my off-the-shoulder neckline and large train – not an easy task! One of my biggest worries going into my wedding was that I did not know how to dance. Over the course of 5 lessons George put together a simple but beautiful looking routine for my fiance and I. Now, instead of worrying about my first dance, I am looking forward to it.
My dad and I came to see George to prepare for our father daughter dance at my wedding. He was friendly, funny and a great dance instructor. We would definitely recommend!
George was a great instructor. He made us feel comfortable and walked us through all the steps we needed for our routine. He spent time getting to know us and what type of dance we wanted to do. He’d record our routine each class so we’d have something to watch at home when practicing and made it a lot easier to remember all the steps. Highly recommend George, he helps guide at your own pace and makes sure that you won’t injure yourself or embarrass yourself on your big day.
George is a phenomenal dance instructor! He is very professional, dedicated, patient and has a great sense of humour! My husband had not danced much before taking these classes and dancing was definitely not his favourite thing to do! George however was able to make him very comfortable with our dance routine, and make him really enjoy this whole experience. After the first two classes, he became really enthusiastic about attending the classes. We truly had a blast! Most importantly, George is a versatile instructor, as he tailors and customizes the dance routines according to your personality and liking, and this is what I admire about him the most. He understands your limitations, and works around your strengths to make you shine! Dancing together has become another fun thing for us to do as a couple, and I have George to thank for that!
George helped us design our first dance from start to finish. He will work with any level of experience (in our case, none) and can still create something that is beautiful and manageable for the couple. Not only does he teach you the steps of the dance, but he also reminds you of the reason you’re marrying your partner. At the final stages of or wedding planning, it was a welcome reminder. We had a great time with George and our first dance received many compliments from our guests. George was well worth our money!

The dance George helped us put together with our song choice was definitely a highlight of our wedding. He knows what you’re going to do wrong and how to avoid it, and works within your skill level. Being able to practice with the dress attachments he had was helpful to get us both ready for the big day. You have practice in between lessons to get the most out of it, but really, that should be a given.

My wife and I decided to do something amazing for our first dance a couple weeks before our wedding. After a quick google search, we landed here and took some lessons with George. Our instructor was very amazing, charismatic, funny, and attentive to make sure you are learning and enjoying what you learn. We managed to learn some nice ballroom moves which matched the theme of our first dance song. Fast forward to the wedding day, our first dance went great and everyone was amazed at our first dance. What I loved most about our dancing lessons with George is the customization of the whole experience. He is so astute in what he does that it’s more about how to make dancing conform with you rather than the other way around. I have been described by many, including my wife, as someone that is tone deaf, unable to sway properly with any beat, and yet on our wedding day, everyone presumed I had years of experience. It’s a cliche but so true, that George made us feel and look experienced. I know that sounds ignorant to any professional dancer as you can’t just become a superstar over night but what George gave us was the love of dancing and a vessel to express ourselves and the outcome looked professional because it’s all based on organic movements of two people who love each other. Trust me when I say this: we have looked at quite a few places in Toronto, and George is one of the most economical and worthwhile teachers you will ever meet. We found George at yourweddingdance.ca a month before our wedding. A friend of ours who got married two years ago took classes with George and highly recommended him. Their dance was beautiful and they learned it in a very short time. I read all his website and really liked his attention to wedding detail, shoes, practicing with wedding dress like skirt, etc. we really liked him so we decided to take extra more lessons. We had a great time taking the classes and he was extremely patient with us. The choreography was beautiful and he encouraged us to perform our best while enjoying the dance. As I started planning my wedding, my dad suggested that we all (my parents and my husband-to-be and I) take dance lessons and that it might be fun. In the end, my dad and I and my mom and dad continued with lessons with the instructor, George. We ended up taking lessons for about two months, twice weekly, with George to prepare for my dance with my dad, and my parents have continued to see him since.
Each lesson is approximately 45 minutes and its a private lesson with George. There are no other people in the room so the focus is 100% on you. You can pay as you go or you can purchase a package, which saves you a little bit of money. We weren’t sure how many we would want to do, so we did pay as you go. George is able to process payment on the spot with his phone, which made it very easy!
First of all, George is amazing. He’s very good at putting you at ease, he makes jokes and has great anecdotes that he sprinkles through every lesson. His method of teaching is straightforward and clear and he’s happy to answer any questions you may have. As well, he encouraged us to bring a cell phone to the lesson so we could videotape the new steps he taught us so that we could review while practicing. We did end up using the videos quite often in our own practice at home and found it super helpful.
My dad and I chose a very upbeat song for our first dance together, Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News, and in the beginning, we were very concerned about the speed of the music and whether or not we could keep up. George assured us that we could do it if we practiced and had regular lessons. He was 100% on board the minute he heard the song and immediately, he started choreographing it on the spot. It’s amazing to watch his process and how quickly he pulls things together and tailors to your strengths.
And he was right! On my wedding day, we had an absolute blast dancing and everyone was BLOWN AWAY by our steps on the dance floor! People weren’t expecting us to bust out a high paced dance and show off, they were all expecting the usual type of first dance. It was also really nice to spend that time with my dad in the lead up to my wedding. It really turned into a very special experience for the both of us – even if you’re doing just a regular waltz, it’s a great way to spend time with your parent!
If you’re thinking about doing a choreographed dance for your wedding, George is the first and only stop you should make on your journey. I was so pleased with how he taught us, how he treated us, how he spoke to us and everything. There was never condescension, never any judgement. He understood that we were new and still learning and adapted his teaching style to our learning style. He answered our incessant questions (there were lots!) and was happy to spend a whole lesson going over a move in detail so that me or my dad could really understand it. You can’t go wrong with George! 100% recommend!

We first approached George to help us with a father/daughter dance at our daughter’s wedding. With only a couple of months to get us ready, George took the time to explain how he intended to make that dance a special one for the occasion, to reassure us that although we were novices, we would go into the day with confidence and perform a memorable dance, and most of all, to ensure us that through all the challenges ahead, we would have fun. Lesson by lesson, with George’s help, we progressed from fumbling over basic steps, to mastering more advanced moves, to finally being totally prepared and ready for our big day. When we finally hit the dance floor at the reception, my daughter and I were thrilled to have so much fun performing a dance routine that would have been unthinkable only two months earlier! George did a masterful job!
While working on the father/daughter dance, my wife and I decided to have George help us to improve our own dancing skills which were very limited at the outset. Again, George had a plan that was tailored to our needs and we enjoyed our many lessons in which George shared his dancing skills and knowledge, coached us in taking a positive mental approach and made sure we understood the basic concepts, steps and positions. Make no mistake, George will demand your attention and ask for your commitment, but he does so with professionalism, an awareness of each individual’s comfort level on the dance floor and above all, a great sense of humour. Our lessons were generally challenging but with George’s approach, we were always engaged, eager for our next lesson and constantly learning.
George is a highly skilled dancer, a kind and thoughtful teacher and a great choice if you want to prepare for that special occasion or just learn how to dance in a variety of styles with poise and confidence. I recommend George highly and we can’t wait for our next dance lesson!

George is an incredible dance instructor! For our first Trial class (it was free), George did a few things no other instructor did:
1) He has dresses for the brides to wear to get used to movement in wedding gowns (he has a bunch of varieties for all sizes).
2) He asked simple but very important questions no other instructed did! Where are we getting married, the size of the dance floor, what shoes are we wearing (and then got us to practice in them).
3) During our trial class he showed us what we were capable of learning, some simple steps, then some lifts, then some fun things.
4) There was a second room to practice in, and George provided other great tips (make sure the MP3 he uses and the DJ uses are the same, no surprises).
George gave us tips for the day off the dance, how to make sure we had the best time, and how to get our guests involved! We loved George’s help, and we are going to keep going back for the fun lessons!

Our big day was absolutely beautiful, we couldn’t have had anything better. The weather was perfect, the venue was fantastic, the flowers were gorgeous and the dance was a BIG hit! We received (and still continue to receive) so many compliments on our first dance! Everyone was blown away with the song choice and the choreography. I must admit, I was a little bit nervous, but once I pushed away the thoughts and just let the music take over, the adrenaline worked WITH us to make it fun and enjoyable. It was something Chris and I will never forget.

Our wedding was September 25th / 2015. It was approx. 3 months before our wedding date (June) that my wife decided she didn’t want to do a boring traditional slow dance swaying back and forth, boring our audience. We did some research online, found George, and decided we’d go for our first lesson. I myself was very negative and nervous about going, a little intimidating as well as I have no dancing skills or dancing back round. Either does my wife, but she is still a better dancer then I am, I figured it would be a disaster and a waste of time.
When we met George at our first lesson, within the first 10 minutes my attitude completely changed, and we both immediately felt 100% relaxed and comfortable. George was amazing from start to finish, he is VERY patient with beginners like us. George put a dance together for us that we could never have done or thought of on our own. In the beginning, we were like deer in headlights, it was a little difficult to not be critical of ourselves, as we were trying to remember the steps, remember the beginning of our routine, etc. As we got through a few more lessons, we began to feel more confident. In the end, we had memorized a whole routine to a 3 minute song, and felt confident presenting it. We were actually quite proud of ourselves and very pleased with the routine.
The dance ended up being a huge hit at our wedding of 200 guests. It was unexpected and exciting, our guests did not expect what we had in store, and everyone loved it.
We will recommend George to as many people as we can. We highly recommend him if your planning a wedding and would like to take a different/exciting approach to your dance. We recommend you start lessons 2-3 months prior to your wedding date to give yourselves time to prepare without stressing out. We took his 10 lesson package, we highly recommend this. 10 lessons over 2-3 months was a perfect amount of time to memorize and master the dance.

What had drawn me to George, the instructor, were his credentials — he is an award winning ballroom dancer– and the fact that he offered a free introductory lesson.
At the introductory lesson he taught my (then) Fiancé and I a basic box step and a few other moves. He immediately put as at ease with his warm blue eyes and patient teaching style. We bought a 10 class package.
In the weeks leading up to our wedding, George put together a dance routine for us that included dips, lifts and spins. We practiced at home about 4 nights a week, and once we’d learned the routine he gave us notes to fine tune it.
Now, 4 days after my wedding, I can tell you that people are STILL talking about our dance. We didn’t tell anybody we were taking lessons and surprised our guests with a full routine that many have compared to the TV show “Dancing with the Stars.”
If you want to do something different at your wedding and really wow your guests, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking lessons at Your Wedding Dance.
I also suggest going to at least one of George’s monthly Dance Parties, so you can get comfortable dancing in front of an audience.

My husband and I extremely enjoyed taking our wedding dance lessons with George. He is very dedicated, professional, and has a great sense of humour. My husband and I always looked forward to each week’s lessons. George is very enthusiastic and patient and helped us perfect every detail of our dance. Four months ago, I was searching for a dance studio and a good instructor for private dance lessons to prepare my fiancé and I for our first dance for our upcoming wedding. Our search ended when we visited the studio to meet George, who welcomed us with a warm smile and informed us of everything we had to know as both my fiancé and I are beginners to ballroom. My husband and I have zero experience dancing, unless you count the drunken grinding while clubbing in our younger days as dancing. My husband is American and could only be in Toronto for the week of our wedding. We didn’t want to do the typical hug and sway dance for our first dance during our wedding so we looked online to see if we could find some help coming up with a less boring first dance. We found George. We only had time for 3 hours of lessons at his studio. We picked out the song, gave it to George and he had a two minute routine for us. From the first time we met, George was professional, concise and spent every minute of the 3 hours teaching us step by step. He gave great practical advise and we had FUN while learning. We tried to stick to what he taught us as much as possible during our wedding (we still made a few minor mistakes but nobody could tell!). We found George at yourweddingdance.ca a month before our wedding. A friend of ours who got married two years ago had taken classes with George introduced him. Their dance was beautiful and they learned it in a very short time. I read all his website and really liked his attention to wedding detail, shoes, timing, practicing with a maxi skirt similar to wedding dress, etc. Before the classes he asked about the song, type of dance and wedding dress picture, etc. The choreography on our song was beautiful and we had so much fun during the classes. He also made sure that my dress looked perfect while dancing so we had one time practice with the dress on! It resulted to a last minute dress fix which made a huge difference on my overall look. As I started planning my wedding, my dad suggested that we all (my parents and my husband-to-be and I) take dance lessons and that it might be fun. In the end, my dad and I and my mom and dad continued with lessons with the instructor, George. We ended up taking lessons for about two months, twice weekly, with George to prepare for my dance with my dad, and my parents have continued to see him since.
Each lesson is approximately 45 minutes and its a private lesson with George. There are no other people in the room so the focus is 100% on you. You can pay as you go or you can purchase a package, which saves you a little bit of money. We weren’t sure how many we would want to do, so we did pay as you go. George is able to process payment on the spot with his phone, which made it very easy!
First of all, George is amazing. He’s very good at putting you at ease, he makes jokes and has great anecdotes that he sprinkles through every lesson. His method of teaching is straight forward and clear and he’s happy to answer any questions you may have. As well, he encouraged us to bring a cell phone to the lesson so we could videotape the new steps he taught us so that we could review while practicing. We did end up using the videos quite often in our own practice at home and found it super helpful.
My dad and I chose a very upbeat song for our first dance together, Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News, and in the beginning, we were very concerned about the speed of the music and whether or not we could keep up. George assured us that we could do it if we practiced and had regular lessons. He was 100% on board the minute he heard the song and immediately, he started choreographing it on the spot. It’s amazing to watch his process and how quickly he pulls things together and tailors to your strengths.
And he was right! On my wedding day, we had an absolute blast dancing and everyone was BLOWN AWAY by our steps on the dance floor! People weren’t expecting us to bust out a high paced dance and show off, they were all expecting the usual type of first dance. It was also really nice to spend that time with my dad in the lead up to my wedding. It really turned into a very special experience for the both of us – even if you’re doing just a regular waltz, it’s a great way to spend time with your parent!
If you’re thinking about doing a choreographed dance for your wedding, George is the first and only stop you should make on your journey. I was so pleased with how he taught us, how he treated us, how he spoke to us and everything. There was never condescension, never any judgement. He understood that we were new and still learning and adapted his teaching style to our learning style. He answered our incessant questions (there were lots!) and was happy to spend a whole lesson going over a move in detail so that me or my dad could really understand it. You can’t go wrong with George! 100% recommend!
